| The CONXX Carrier Communication Platform is a wireless
infrastructure that consists of a series of core communication
towers, a network operations center and microwave radios
at end-user locations for network connectivity. The
equipment that is included in the network design is
best-of-breed, and has been carefully selected because
of reliability, technical features and performance.
The CONXX patent-pending EtherCell operating environment
brings all of the system components together to provide
the security, flexibility and performance required by
a multi-service, multi-user environment. The CONXX platform
enables virtually all data traversing the network to
be managed end-to-end, ensuring that security, priority
and quality are maintained for users and applications
that require Carrier Grade connections.
The
core towers are generally configured to form wireless
OC-12 rings configured for alternate route protection,
with carrier-grade reliability of 99.999% on the backbone.
Each tower is configured with six multipoint OFDM
radios which provide 360 degrees and approximately
five-mile radius of near-line-of-sight (NLOS) coverage
and approximately eight-mile radius line-of-sight
(LOS) coverage. All towers are also each equipped
with 900MHz radios having 360 degree coverage within
about 2 mile radius for public safety and first-responder
mobility applications The 900MHz radio coverage is
extended with cell extenders for use along highways
and other key areas. Other last mile radios can also
be integrated into the backbone for specific applications
or needs as well.
The network is also designed for T-1 and DS-3 access
at each tower for public safety trunked radio and
other applications that require time-division multiplexed
(TDM) service. Each tower is initially equipped with
an 8xT1 configuration at each tower with additional
capacity for more circuits when needed.
To help ensure that the equipment performs well,
the equipment building at each tower site has environmental
controls with primary air conditioning and secondary
cross-flow ventilation in the event of AC failure.
In addition, each tower is equipped with generator,
a 1-week supply of fuel, and battery backup to ensure
continuity of operations in the event of a power failure.
A major key to the success of any network is to have
visibility into every aspect of the network, and to
have the information that will enable issues to be
identified and resolved quickly and effectively. The
CONXX Carrier Communication Observer network management
framework provides extensive management and monitoring
tools for all aspects of the network, from the backbone
to the edge, as well as historical and real-time reports.
The CONXX NMS will support
virtually any SNMP or TL1 capable device and can be
added with minimal effort for monitoring and reporting.
In addition, network events and devices can be correlated
to provide more comprehensive and intuitive troubleshooting
tools to enhance network uptime and technician productivity.
Capabilities are limited only by the SNMP or TL1 feature
set found in the device. The NMS can support and monitor
all edge devices.
Devices that have APIs through SNMP, TL1 or other
management protocols that are network-enabled can
have configuration screens built. However, this will
be custom to each device and is not a standard feature
of the CONXX management framework. Difficulty varies
based on the device to be configured. Many network
devices require a management serial interface for
older protocols such as TBOS and E2A, (particularly
on telco equipment) that requires the use of a remote
terminal or 4-wire serial connection. The CONXX NMS
will accept the ASCII data that is transmitted by
these devices.
